description: Author abstract: The purpose of this site is to allow the people of Windham and Willimantic together to attain a deeper historical understanding of a complex era lost to us long ago. This site is about the people of Windham and Willimantic during the days of World War I. The surrounding community had an active role when it came to the way it dealt with the struggle which came along with an all consuming war. This site is a part of a Century America project in which students representing 9 different liberal arts colleges and universities across the country researched their schools and communities during the era of World War I. COPLAC and its affiliates wanted to encourage college towns by bringing together their resources in order to celebrate and memorialize the people who lost so much and devoted their energy to their country during the Great War.
