In this lecture, James Farmer discusses the summer of 1964, or Freedom Summer, and the push for voter education and voter registration in Mississippi. In addition, he explains the rise of the Civil Rights Movement, and how CORE and other similar organizations were beginning to grow in popularity. He describes the networking done to recruit volunteers, and how many people volunteered to end discrimination and help with voter education and voter registration. Farmer also described Freedom Summer volunteers Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman, and James Chaney who went missing in Neshoba County, Mississippi and how Farmer headed there to search for them.
