description: This collection of World War I posters was donated by Frank Fayant of New York in 1951. Fayant and his wife, Marie, both served with the Red Cross in France during the war. The posters were produced to educate the public and enlist support for the war effort, covering topics such as recruitment, Liberty Bond purchasing and food conservation. Our collection contains posters from France, Britain, Italy and the United States. As artistic works, the posters range in style from vibrant works by well-known designers, such as Howard Chandler Christy, to plainer broadsides and serve as examples of the design and printing techniques of the period. Descriptions and translations of the posters were often compiled from the Library of Congress and other sources.
